Stacy Pope

I live in Manhattan and love to walk through Central Park to the museum where I work. Over the years I have traveled in more than 35 countries on five continents, but my first love will always be Hawaii, where I was born and raised. A professional writer and editor for 15 years, my travel-writing credits include Orbitz, Zagat, Gogobot, Countryman Press guidebooks, and inflight magazines for Hawaii's Island Air and Aloha Airlines. My passions, in addition to traveling and writing, include art, animals and nature.

What's the most underrated destination in your opinion?

Ecuador. It’s one of the most beautiful and diverse countries I’ve visited.

What's your favorite mode of transportation? Why?

Trains. They’re so comfortable, and I love the sound of the wheels clicking on the tracks. But the best part is that they often take you through scenic countryside, away from the main roads and commercialism.

Do you prefer traveling alone or with a companion? Why?

Both. When I travel with a companion I have more fun, but traveling alone always builds my confidence. And I meet a lot of wonderful local people and other travelers when I’m on my own.
