Perth-based writer Carmen Jenner freelances to many lifestyle publications locally, nationally and internationally. Assignments have taken her all around the world from Bali, Sri Lanka and Singapore as far as New York and Colombia, but she always returns to her wonderfully isolated home-town, which she is proud to show-off to Bindu's audience. Specialising in memoirs, reviews, destinations pieces and travel advice, she's always hunting out her next big scoop whether that be under her nose or in another far flung corner of the globe. Check out her blog Fluffy Towel - for travellers fond of their adventures and fluffy towels.

What is the most important thing you've learned from traveling?

Just how lucky I am to live in Perth. We have such a wonderful lifestyle in Perth and its not until you try and squeeze into a teeny apartment in New York or experience the living conditions in developing nations that you truly understand how great we have it. Sometimes you have to travel far to truly come home.

What's your most exciting or surprising travel experience?

Most definitely New York City, anything is possible at any time of the day or night. In the space of one minute you can be both horrified and enchanted; you know you’re alive.

Have you ever been somewhere that was so bad you couldn't write about it?

Well, I wouldn’t say the destination itself was that bad, but I lost my commission and no editor would touch it due to a natural disaster.

What's the most underrated destination in your opinion?

There’s so many, every place has its redeeming features and in fact I prefer these assignments as they always turn out to be really interesting trips which is reflected in my articles.
